HOPEDEALER OF THE YEAR | Me!
Let me tell you something, God is able! Even with the success of HBCUstory Symposium 2014, which included gracious keynotes by Dr. Ivory Toldson and my heroine, Sister Fiskite + Delta Soror Dr.Johnnetta B. Cole, dynamic presentations by rising HBCU scholars Aisha M Johnson, Shan JayAl, DrKenyatta Cavil, Christopher Jett, Jocelyn Imani, Ebonie Johnson Cooper, Michelle Janaye, Terrence Bradford Tarver Mpa, Amanda Washington and many more; with the hard work of so many friends, and indeed family, including Marshall A. Latimore, Brittany-Rae Gregory, Kayla C. Elliott, Onika Samuda Coke + A Earnest Smith, this recognition from my friends at The H.O.P.E. Scholarship Initiative brought (and still brings) me to tears. Because it was completely unexpected–just ask them where I was when they announced it if you think I’m joking–and because, like me, they’re working hard to leave the world better than they met it. Every time I think of the past two weeks, I’m reminded anew that God can make something out of nothing. He can make the stone the builder rejected, the cornerstone. He dreams the boldest dreams. God restores! And restoration, my friends, is sweet!
